Celebrate Children's Day with Koinobori at Tokyo Aquatics Center
In a remarkable initiative to inspire young minds and celebrate culture, the Tokyo Sports Culture Foundation has announced a special event at the Tokyo Aquatics Center. From April 25 to May 10, 2026, coinciding with Children's Day, colorful koinobori (carp streamers) will be showcased, creating a festive atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
The highlight of this event is a massive 5-meter koinobori that will gracefully flutter against the backdrop of the Tokyo Aquatics Center, complemented by an original streamer featuring the center's logo. The spectacle will serve as a welcoming sign for those visiting the facility during this vibrant period. Moreover, around 700 uniquely decorated koinobori created by children from local elementary schools, kindergartens, and nurseries will be exhibited on the glass surfaces of the center, turning the establishment into a vibrant art space filled with the creativity and imagination of the youth.
This fusion of koinobori soaring in the air and children swimming in the water exemplifies the unique atmosphere of the aquatic facility. The event aims to connect children’s creative experiences with a deeper appreciation and fondness for the facility, while also enriching community ties. Visitors will be able to engage with the beauty of Japanese culture and the changing seasons right in the heart of the city, resulting in a warm, joyous experience for everyone involved.
