Okayama University Launches Innovative KIBINOVE×HAGIHARA Co-Creation Program for Students

Introduction

In an exciting development for aspiring innovators, Okayama University has officially launched the KIBINOVE×HAGIHARA Co-Creation PoC Program 2026. This groundbreaking initiative is designed to engage students in hands-on product development while showcasing the university’s commitment to research and innovation.

Program Overview

The program takes place under the auspices of Okayama University's Research and Innovation Co-Creation Organization, in collaboration with Hagihara Industry Co., Ltd. Guided by the theme, "Hami Dase, Ami Dase," students are encouraged to explore their own desires by transforming their ideas for needed products into real prototypes. The program consists of seven sessions and aims to lead to eventual e-commerce sales of the developed products.

The first session was held on May 20, 2026, at the KIBINOVE Innovation Lab on the Tsushima Campus. Here, twelve enthusiastic students came together to brainstorm ideas for products they truly want to invest in. The free-spirited and unique perspectives driven by their youthful creativity resulted in a wide array of ideas spanning various domains, including disaster prevention, outdoor gear, and everyday storage solutions.

Participating students engaged in dynamic discussions, focusing on the underlying needs driving their ideas. They sought to address real-world problems, asking questions like, “What is the true need behind this idea?” and “Who will benefit from this solution?” It was an educational exercise in identifying and refining each respective concept.

Exploring Product Development

Following the brainstorming session, the second round on June 17 included a special factory tour at Hagihara's headquarters. Students gained in-depth insights into the manufacturing processes for blue sheets and state-of-the-art mesh and textile techniques. The firsthand observation of material production and technology in action invigorated the students' creative processes, enabling them to transform their conceptual ideas into feasible strategies.

Conversations during the tour led to practical discussions on how specific materials and processing methods could enhance their product ideas. Not merely theoretical, the dialogue that ensued focused on concrete, manufacturable proposals that can genuinely be created and brought to market.

Next Steps

The program's next key milestone is the interim presentation, which will refine the ideas into actionable proof-of-concept (PoC) proposals. By integrating feedback from industry experts at Hagihara, students will enhance their plans as they prepare for autumn production efforts. The evolution of these ideas promises to deliver fascinating updates in the coming months—stay tuned for their innovative outcomes.

Conclusion

Okayama University continues to be a leading research institution, emphasizing co-creation and community engagement. The collaboration with Hagihara showcases a commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators. With the KIBINOVE program, the university is fostering an environment where students not only learn but also apply their knowledge in impactful, real-world contexts. Don’t miss the exciting developments that lie ahead from this unique partnership!
