Understanding the Importance of Peace at Peace Fest 2026 with Sahel Rose

Embracing the Spirit of Peace at Peace Fest 2026

On July 4th, 2026, Pal System Tokyo held its anticipated event "Peace Fest 2026" at its headquarters in Shinjuku, focusing on the vital themes of knowing and sharing the importance of peace. Approximately 150 participants gathered both onsite and online to engage in discussions led by notable figures such as Iranian-born Sahel Rose and Ukrainian citizen Nikita Tropchin, allowing voices from around the globe to share the impact of wars and divisions on countless lives.

Unreported Struggles of the World

The venue featured seven international NGOs that Pal System Tokyo has partnered with for its "Peace Campaign" to help raise awareness and support from users for those affected by severe conditions in nations like Afghanistan, Iraq, Thailand, and Cambodia. These organizations have long provided vital assistance such as education, healthcare, and improvements to living environments in regions beset by conflict.

Each organization presented firsthand accounts of the struggles faced by individuals in these countries as they tackled a variety of challenges, and detailed their funded projects that have made a positive impact on local communities. Engaging quizzes that highlighted the cultural contexts and needs of these areas were also included, illustrating the resilience of those living in adversity.

Retailing Hope: World Bazaar

The event featured a "World Bazaar" where attendees could explore and purchase handicrafts and food items from the supported regions, including handmade trinkets and tea. Proceeds from the sales were funneled back into the respective NGOs for continued program support. Participants were also encouraged to try on traditional clothing from various cultures, enhancing their experiential understanding of the intricate customs that permeate these communities.

Information Overload: What We Need to Know

In an insightful exchange, Sahel Rose, who became a war orphan at four years old, and Nikita Tropchin, who fled Ukraine shortly after the Russian invasion, shared their unique perspectives on peace and the necessity for awareness in the media. The dialogue was moderated by Mari Choi, a representative from JIM-NET, a key recipient of the peace campaign donations.

Both speakers underscored the imperative nature of sharing vital information for understanding current socio-political climates. Sahel, who successfully adapted to life in Japan at a young age, reflected on the escalation of attacks in Ukraine and questioned the media's failure to adequately cover these urgent issues, especially when world events like the Olympics or World Cup draw significant attention away.

Nikita expanded on this notion, asserting that humans are not equipped to process the overwhelming flow of information bombarding them via social media. He advocated for the necessity to critically engage with information to discern what is crucial and accurate. He warned that conflicts often arise when public disengagement enables totalitarian regimes to thrive, echoing his concerns about Japan's present state of peace.

The Call for Compassion and Change

Sahel stressed the importance of remembering those whose sacrifices illuminate the horrors of war, ensuring that the narratives of affected individuals, including survivors of attacks and war veterans, are not overlooked.

"In Japan, discussions can often polarize to extremes," she noted, emphasizing that everyone's perspectives deserve recognition. The real challenge lies in what attendees choose to do with the knowledge they gained during the event. She encouraged widening the circles of kindness and altruism, starting with the small communities around them.

Supporting Peace Efforts into the Future

Pal System Tokyo has been advocating for the support of organizations aiding children in dire circumstances since 1996. In 2025, the collaborative efforts raised over 13.6 million yen to bolster globally impactful children's initiatives.

With ongoing support for local needs—like those of the Peshawar Association’s irrigation efforts in Afghanistan set forth by the late Dr. Tetsu Nakamura—and programs focusing on health improvements for children in Cambodia, Pal System Tokyo aims to continue shedding light on necessary global challenges. As we look toward the future, they remain committed to enabling participants to engage meaningfully with the concept of peace.
