As a pivotal player on the New Silk Road, Xinjiang’s role in China's Belt and Road Initiative cannot be understated. In Yining city, businesses like a tempered glass production company witness firsthand the positive impacts of this investment. According to Ma Ximing, the company’s sales manager, their annual output value skyrocketed from just 7 million yuan in 2019 to nearly 20 million yuan by 2024, a growth directly linked to the region's favorable business environment.

Historically, Xinjiang's economy was primarily agricultural, with minimal industrialization prior to the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Today, private enterprises thrive, spurred by determined entrepreneurship and a market economy that encourages innovation. Registered businesses in the region surpassed 2.67 million by May 2025, reflecting a thriving entrepreneurial spirit that continues to grow.
