Promoting Understanding Through the MIRAI Program
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is spearheading an exciting initiative known as the MIRAI Exchange Program, designed to foster understanding of Japan among international participants. In its latest installment, the program focuses on
SDGs Business and Innovation, bringing together 18 students from 18 different European countries to engage in a week-long cultural and educational experience across Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Yamanashi.
An Inspiring Gathering of Minds
Participants of this prestigious program, representing nations including Belgium, France, Greece, and the UK, will embark on a journey starting from January 14, 2026. Throughout their stay, they will immerse themselves in lectures, site visits, and cultural experiences aimed at broadening their understanding of Japan's society, economy, and distinctive cultural heritage.
At Keio University, participants will engage in intellectual exchanges with local students and faculty in a stimulating academic environment. This collaboration nurtures the formation of networks among future leaders from Europe and Japan, fostering mutual friendships and understanding.
As part of their itinerary, students will venture into the splendid natural landscapes of Yamanashi, including visits to Mt. Fuji and the Fuji World Heritage Center. Such excursions will enhance their appreciation of Japan's natural beauty and cultural significance.
Exploring Japan's Commitment to Sustainability
The program also seeks to educate participants about Japan's Green Transformation (GX). They will have the opportunity to attend lectures at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, where they will learn about the country's initiatives aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through site visits and hands-on experiences, participants will gain valuable insights into the state of Japan’s market economy and its connection to the global economy.

A Vision for Future Leaders
This ambitious initiative is executed by the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) and serves a dual purpose: to provide a platform for cultural exchanges while equipping participants with knowledge about various aspects of Japanese society, including its politics, economy, culture, and history. By promoting understanding and support for Japan, the MIRAI program aims to enhance Japan's international outreach and strengthen its diplomatic foundations through the voices of its participants.
The Japanese government is dedicated to sharing its diplomatic stance and the allure of its culture through initiatives like MIRAI. By empowering future global leaders, this program seeks to nurture a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship between Japan and Europe.
