Florida Southern College Enhances Pathways for Pre-Health Students

Florida Southern College (FSC) is excited to announce the establishment of a new articulation agreement with the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM), specifically designed for its Pre-Medical students. This initiative reflects the college's commitment to facilitating pathways for students who aspire to enter the healthcare profession.

The new articulation agreement guarantees an interview for any qualified current FSC student or alumnus interested in admission to OCOM. To qualify, students must adhere to designated academic protocols and exhibit high academic achievement. This program is a testament to the rigorous pre-medical education provided at Florida Southern College, affirming that graduates who perform well will have a streamlined process toward OCOM’s admissions.

In addition to the partnership with OCOM, Florida Southern College offers an Early Acceptance Program (EAP) in collaboration with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). This program caters to students in various pre-health tracks, including Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental, Pre-Pharmacy, and Pre-Podiatry. The EAP is particularly beneficial as it allows students to secure a provisional letter of acceptance—essentially a reserved seat—at one of LECOM's professional schools upon completion of a successful interview, significantly easing the anxiety associated with the medical school admissions process.

Dr. Erin Myszkowski, Executive Director of Career Services at Florida Southern College, expressed enthusiasm about these agreements, stating, "The new OCOM Guaranteed Interview Program and our established LECOM Early Acceptance Program provide excellent opportunities for our Pre-Health students. These programs pave direct pathways to admission in two of Florida's most innovative health professional schools, covering various health professions such as osteopathic medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and podiatry."

Students interested in the EAP can apply as early as their senior year of high school and continue until the commencement of their third undergraduate year. However, to be eligible for enrollment, students must maintain official (and continuous) EAP enrollment at FSC for two consecutive years before matriculating at LECOM.
