Techem's 2025 Sustainability Report: Progress in Climate Protection and Digitalization

Techem has officially launched its sixth Sustainability Report for the year 2025, showcasing substantial achievements in areas such as climate protection, digital transformation, and the circular economy. Notable highlights from the report reveal that Techem has successfully reduced its total CO2 emissions footprint by 11.2% compared to the previous year, stemming from effective climate protection actions and a decrease in Scope 3 emissions. This progress signifies a 27% reduction against the baseline year of 2020, evidencing the effectiveness of their ongoing decarbonization efforts.

Techem not only aims to minimize its own carbon footprint but also actively supports the broader real estate sector through a myriad of products and services focused on decarbonization. These initiatives include ongoing monitoring for enhanced transparency, optimizing heating system operations, and developing decarbonized heating solutions for existing buildings. As Matthias Hartmann, CEO of Techem, states, "The energy transition can only succeed when we think of digitalization and sustainability in tandem. Together, they are the keys to making decarbonization measurable, scalable, and effective within the building sector."

A key aspect of their strategy involves bolstering digital infrastructure, as evidenced by the fact that 85.4% of their measuring devices are now networked. This connectivity fosters data-driven transparency, enabling better management of sustainability and facilitating real progress in the sector. The company's comprehensive sustainability strategy aligns ecological responsibilities with economic success, thereby enhancing efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness.

In the realm of e-mobility, Techem is focused on establishing a comprehensive charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. By the end of 2025, they had installed 2,013 charging points, with plans to expand this number to over 5,000 by the end of 2027, all powered by green energy. A significant milestone has been reached with the awarding of a contract for a charging infrastructure initiative by the State Building and Property Agency of North Rhine-Westphalia, which anticipates up to 2,000 additional charging points.

Moreover, Techem is actively electrifying its own fleet of vehicles, with 50.4% of its German car fleet operating in a CO2-neutral manner—a 20.5% increase from the previous year. The target is to escalate this percentage to 90% by the end of 2028.

Techem has also established a new Re-Use Center aimed at enhancing resource efficiency in alignment with circular economy principles. This initiative incorporates a three-step process allowing devices and components to be reused or returned to the manufacturer for professional refurbishment or recycling. In instances where devices cannot be reused, they are disassembled to recover up to 98% of their materials, reintegrating them into industrial cycles.

Techem’s strong performance in sustainability has been recognized with an "AA" ESG rating from MSCI, positioning the company among the leaders in environmental, social, and governance criteria. In key categories such as Carbon Emissions and Data Security, Techem surpasses the industry average. Additionally, the EUPD Group awarded Techem the esteemed ESG Transparency Award for its 2024 Sustainability Report, achieving the highest rating level of "Excellence" and being designated as a "Leading Company."

The company’s commitment to sustainability reporting is voluntary and adheres to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards while preparing for the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Techem also follows the recommendations set forth by the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), ensuring an assessment of climate-related risks and opportunities.

Through these concerted efforts, Techem not only exemplifies leadership in sustainable practices within the building sector but also leads by example, paving the way for a greener future. Founded in 1952, Techem operates in 18 countries with more than 4,200 employees and provides services for over 13 million residential units. Their expertise spans energy management, resource conservation, healthy living environments, and process efficiency in real estate. As a pioneering service provider for smart and sustainable buildings, Techem continuously advances digital processes and connectivity in the real estate sector, offering modern solutions like multi-sensor devices, wireless smoke alarms with remote inspection, and infrastructure for e-mobility.
