Engagement Month: A Change in Perspective
January has been declared Engagement Month, and to address the common issues organizations face in implementing effective engagement strategies, the Protian Career Association is hosting a free online seminar titled
'Why Don't Engagement Strategies Work? - The Limitations of Organizational Perspectives on HR Policies' on January 28, 2026.
In this seminar, we will focus on the disconnect between organizational perspectives and individual career perspectives as a key factor contributing to the inefficacy of common engagement measures such as employee surveys and one-on-one meetings. Many companies have reported dissatisfaction with current efforts to prevent employee turnover despite having multiple engagement strategies in place. We attribute this dissatisfaction to an organizational management-centric approach which fails to account for individual employee needs and aspirations.
Reasons for the Ineffectiveness
In the current landscape of human capital management, many organizations are finding that despite conducting engagements surveys and organizing one-on-one meetings, they see little to no improvement in employee engagement numbers or a change in the workplace environment. This lack of measurable progress suggests that many engagement strategies are too focused on creating a structure around management oversight rather than empowering employees.
Throughout the seminar, we will explore the distinction between engagement and career development, and how integrating career data can play a crucial role in enhancing both engagement levels and talent retention.
