Hosted by ENGAWA Co., Ltd., this initiative aims to engage young adults, including students in their 20s and 30s, by promoting local work opportunities through immersive experiences. Nibu's riveting journey took place over a 1-night, 2-day adventure in Minamiizu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture—a picturesque destination known for its natural beauty and rich local culture.

Minamiizu is a small town with a population of just over 7,000, located at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula. Just three hours from Tokyo, it's often dubbed the “Southern Paradise” for its stunning coastlines, mountains, rivers, and famous hot springs. For this series, Nibu teamed up with two student staff members known as "Wakamono Members" to experience a hands-on approach to local work, aiming to help revitalize the community.

The Working Holiday Experience

The first day began with an engaging work experience at the historic "Ogiya Seika" confectionery store, operating for nearly a century. The sweet treat of the day was a local specialty, "Onsen Melon," grown in greenhouses heated by hot spring water—a must-try that attracts visitors from all around. Following this, Nibu participated in a DIY experience at "moksa Coffee," a beloved coffee roasting shop known for its community involvement.

The second day was dedicated to leisure, where Nibu embraced the joy of kayaking in the crystal-clear waters of Minamiizu. This series cleverly likens the Hometown Working Holiday to a role-playing game (RPG), inviting participants to explore various careers as if advancing through job levels in a game. With her active engagement on YouTube, Nibu serves as the protagonist, navigating the challenges and delights of regional revitalization.

A Meaningful Initiative

The Hometown Working Holiday program allows participants to earn income while working locally during a set period, usually ranging from two weeks to a month. It's designed to combat the declining population in rural areas due to urban migration, offering young people a chance to contribute meaningfully to community development. Participants learn about local issues, experience everyday life, and enjoy leisure time in the countryside—creating a bridge between city dwellers eager to contribute and local residents seeking to revitalize their towns.
