Missouri Vlasic Classic Golf Tournament to Aid Justice Reform Efforts and Support Jarred Shaw
Fourth Annual Missouri Vlasic Classic
The Missouri Vlasic Classic is set to take place from May 1 to May 3, 2026, at the picturesque Old Kinderhook Resort. This charity golf tournament aims to unite leaders from the cannabis industry while raising awareness and funds for The Forgotten Prisoner, an initiative centered on justice reform and helping families impacted by excessive sentencing.
The event's focus this year is to support Jarred Shaw, a former professional basketball player currently serving a 26-month prison sentence in Indonesia for possessing cannabis gummies purchased to alleviate his Crohn's disease symptoms. The initiative is vital not only for raising monetary support for Shaw and his family but also for amplifying his story across the nation.
Jarred Shaw's journey has been challenging since he was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2010. Relying on cannabis to manage his condition, he made the unfortunate mistake of ordering gummies while playing in the Indonesia Basketball League, unaware of the nation's strict drug laws. Initially facing the death penalty, Shaw received a reduced sentence of 26 months in prison, but his health has significantly deteriorated due to the poor prison conditions, which have exacerbated his illness. He has lost over 30 pounds due to inadequate access to nutritional food and medical care.
The Vlasic Labs team, spearheaded by CEO Willy Vlasic, is not only focused on fundraising but also on advocating for Shaw's return to the U.S. They are encouraging the American public to reach out to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Peter Haymond for diplomatic engagement and humanitarian support for Shaw. "The Vlasic Classic has become more than just a golf tournament; it's a call to action for our community to take responsibility in addressing the injustices faced by individuals like Jarred," said Vlasic.
Shaw himself expressed gratitude for the efforts to support him and his family, sharing, "Knowing people back home are helping my family and speaking up for me gives me hope. I just want to get healthy and return to my family." His legal advocate, Donte West, highlighted the ongoing humanitarian issues surrounding Shaw's circumstances, urging for continued diplomatic efforts for his release.
The Missouri Vlasic Classic builds on the success of previous tournaments, which have collectively raised over $140,000 for justice reform initiatives across various events in Missouri, Michigan, and Las Vegas. This year's event will feature a welcome mixer, a competitive shotgun-start tournament on Old Kinderhook's renowned 18-hole course, and a celebratory Awards Gala. All proceeds generated from player registration, sponsorships, raffles, and on-course competitions will benefit The Forgotten Prisoner and assist Shaw’s family during this challenging period.
