Mido Labo's 20th Performance: 'The Spring of This World'

Mido Labo is thrilled to announce its 20th performance with a stage adaptation of Miyuki Miyabe's acclaimed three-part series, 'The Spring of This World', in celebration of the company's 10th anniversary. The performances will take place from December 24 to December 28, 2025, at Theatre BONBON in Nakano, Tokyo. Tickets went on sale starting September 25, 2023, and can be purchased through the Confetti website, operated by Long Run Planning Co., Ltd.

A Theatrical Experience Like No Other

This adaptation combines the intricate storytelling style unique to Mido Labo, merging narrative prose with dialogue from the novels. Audience members can expect to immerse themselves in a blend of psychological drama, mystery, and romance—hallmarks of Miyabe's storytelling. The performance promises to surprise with its complex plot twists, carefully woven foreshadowing, and multidimensional characters, ultimately exploring themes of light and darkness, despair and rebirth, love, and courage.

Plot Overview

The story unfolds in the domain of the Shimono-Kitami clan, where the lord, Shigeoki Kitami, faces exile by his retainers, citing his mental illness as the reason. Confined in isolation, the root of his affliction lies in a harrowing event that remains shrouded in secrecy. As his loyal retainers delve into the mystery to rescue him, they traverse a web of interconnected enigmas: voices of the deceased, masked figures, and a case of missing boys. As the unfolding narrative converges on these incidents, a hidden tragedy within the Kitami domain emerges, revealing why Shigeoki succumbed to mental anguish. The retainers' journey leads to unexpected truths, laying bare the dark history buried within their world.
