Tokyo Power Technology Supports Deaf Athlete Satoshi Osanai
Tokyo Power Technology Co., Ltd., headquartered in Koto City, Tokyo, is known for its extensive energy-related ventures. Recently, the company has made significant strides in promoting
Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) by hiring deaf athletes.
We are excited to announce that our athlete, Satoshi Osanai, has been selected as a designated parathlete under the
Chiba Prefecture’s “2023 Parathlete Enhancement and Support Project.” This initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of parathletes, contributing to the broader promotion and development of para-sports.
Satoshi, who competes in the
Deaf Track and Field events (400m and 800m), is anticipated to achieve even greater heights in his athletic career. He has been provisionally selected as a representative for Japan at the first
2025 Deaflympics set to take place in Tokyo this November.
Beyond his athletic pursuits, Satoshi actively promotes D&I awareness through public speaking engagements at elementary schools and conducting athletics clinics. This commitment underscores our mission: to foster a society where diverse talents can thrive.
Satoshi Osanai's Achievements
- - 2017: Reached the semifinals in 400m at the Samsung Deaflympics.
- - 2020: Won first place in the 400m at the Japan Deaf Athletics Championships.
- - 2024: Reached the semifinals in 400m at the 5th World Deaf Athletics Championships.
- - 2024: Achieved 2nd place in the 4×400m relay with a new Japanese deaf record at the same championships.
Satoshi was born with
sensorineural hearing loss but has shown remarkable resilience throughout his educational journey. Initially influenced by his brother, he joined the basketball team in middle school. However, he soon realized the communication challenges in team sports and shifted his focus to track and field. His talent was evident when he won the Chiba prefecture junior high school championships, leading him to compete at national levels.
After graduating from university, Satoshi stepped away from competitive sports to work in customer service but returned to athletics after experiencing significant communication challenges due to his hearing impairment. He aims to spread awareness and understanding of disabilities, driven in part by interactions with a classmate who shared a similar hearing disability.
Currently, Satoshi is training hard under the banner of Tokyo Power Technology, working towards representing Japan at the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics. He is passionate about using his experiences in athletics to foster understanding of hearing disabilities and advocate for diversity in society. His ongoing projects continue to engage and educate the community.

About the Parathlete Enhancement and Support Project
Chiba Prefecture has established a program that designates and supports parathletes and para-sports teams linked to the region. The primary aim is to enhance the competitive capabilities of parathletes and contribute to the promotion and advancement of sports through initiatives that facilitate training environments, coaching expertise, equipment purchases, and coverage of travel and competition costs. The program not only supports athletes but also encourages them to give back to the community by providing technical guidance and demonstrations in local schools, further enriching the sports culture.
