Innovative Steps Towards Ocean Conservation
On November 3rd, 2025, the Refineverse Co., Ltd., based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, successfully conducted its
fourth fishing net recycling initiative at the Shizuoka Underwater Aquarium, located in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This annual project aims to contribute toward resolving the global issue of marine plastic waste, particularly focusing on the ecological hazards posed by abandoned fishing nets.
The event welcomed
14 participants, all eager to experience the hands-on process of fishing net recycling. These fishing nets, which primarily come from the waters surrounding the Izu Shimoda area and are used for deep-sea gold-eye snapper fishing, require meticulous separation to remove metallic components like hooks and wires. Attendees were treated to an engaging educational experience, learning the critical steps involved in the recycling process.
Being a holiday weekend, attendance was limited, yet participants expressed their enthusiasm. One participant remarked, "It was fascinating to touch the nets, something I’ve never done before," demonstrating the unique hands-on element the project offers. Despite the small group, the participants managed to complete the sorting of
two bags full of discarded fishing nets.
Rewarding Commitment to Environmental Conservation
In recognition of their efforts, participants received
tokens of appreciation such as vouchers for the popular otter feeding experience at the aquarium and novelty items like glue sticks made from recycled nets. These initiatives helped impart a fun and informative atmosphere that emphasized the importance of environmental conservation.

About REMAIDE® – The High-Quality Recycled Nylon Pellet
After the fishing nets are collected and cleaned of foreign materials, they are transported to the Refineverse's factory in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture. Here, these materials are reborn as
REAMIDE®, a high-quality recycled nylon pellet that serves as a versatile raw material for various products, including construction materials, household appliances, apparel, and office furniture. The fishing nets collected during this project will also be transformed into REMAIDE®, promoting circular economy principles by reintroducing the materials back into the market.
To further engage participants, the project distributed novelty glue sticks made from REMAIDE® materials.
The Vision of Refineverse Group
“Connecting future wealth with unique perspectives and technology.” Refineverse has been actively promoting circular economy principles for over 20 years, focusing on the regeneration and development of various materials. Their projects include transforming discarded carpet tiles into a recycled product called
Refine Powder, alongside their ongoing efforts to turn fishing nets and obsolete car airbags into high-quality nylon pellets like REMAIDE®. Starting in 2023, they have also initiated a new endeavor by developing a bio-material called
ReFEZER, sourced from bird feathers, further expanding their role in creating a sustainable, circular society.
Through innovative projects like the fishing net recycling initiative, Refineverse is not only addressing environmental challenges but also inspiring communities to participate actively in ocean conservation efforts.
