Fontaine Green Forest Campaign: A Sustainable Initiative for the Environment



The Fontaine Green Forest Campaign, operated by Adulans Co., Ltd. headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has reached its milestone of 18 years, promoting a unique blend of CSR and SDGs activities. From June 1 to August 31, 2023, Fontaine shops across the country will actively collect unused wigs, contributing to environmental preservation efforts.

Campaign Overview


During the campaign, customers can bring in their unused wigs—regardless of brand—to any participating Fontaine store. For each wig handed in, participants will receive a "Green Coupon" that offers discounts on new Fontaine wigs. This initiative not only promotes recycling but also supports reforestation activities in Shizuoka Prefecture through partnerships with local environmental organizations such as the Tsuwalu no Mori LLC.

Purpose and Impact of the Campaign


The campaign was initiated in 2009 with a vision to support the planet by collecting unwanted wigs, aiming for sustainability and awareness. To date, over 100,000 wigs have been retrieved, showcasing the campaign's success. After collection, the wigs are processed at approved waste disposal facilities, ensuring that they are safely turned into backfill or roadbed materials.

Environmental Efforts in Shizuoka


The funds raised through this campaign are earmarked for the "Red Pine Forest Restoration Project" at the Shizuoka Prefectural Forest Park—a vital area recognized for its biodiversity by the Ministry of the Environment. Unfortunately, the park has suffered from a significant decline in its pure red pine populations due to bark beetle infestations exacerbated by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. In response, this year, Adulans became the first private company to actively support the reforestation project, earning recognition and awards for their efforts.

Campaign Details


Customers can participate by bringing in unwanted wigs (including those from other brands) to earn their Green Coupons. Each coupon received can be used for a discount on future purchases of Fontaine wigs:

- From ¥55,000 to ¥109,999: ¥5,500 off
- From ¥110,000 to ¥219,999: ¥11,000 off
- From ¥220,000 to ¥329,999: ¥22,000 off
- From ¥330,000 to ¥439,999: ¥33,000 off
- From ¥440,000 and above: ¥44,000 off
The exact discount varies based on the purchase amount, and each participating store can provide more detailed information.

The Journey of the Fontaine Green Forest Campaign


Since its inception, the funds raised from the campaign have been allocated towards various significant environmental initiatives:

1. Yamanashi Prefecture Reforestation (2009-2016): Over 1,200 trees were planted, with heights now exceeding two meters.
2. Tohoku/Sanriku Support (2016-2024): Planting cherry blossoms to commemorate the impact of the 2011 earthquake.
3. Red Pine Forest Restoration Project (2019-Present): Employee participation in activities to support the recovery of the red pine ecosystem.
