Three New Regions Certificated by SAVOR JAPAN to Promote Japanese Food Culture

Introduction to SAVOR JAPAN


The SAVOR JAPAN initiative was established by Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with the aim of attracting inbound tourism by showcasing local food and culinary traditions. On December 23, it will recognize three new regions, underlining the significance of agriculture, mountains, and fishing in Japan's cultural landscape. These regions will be celebrated in a certificate awarding ceremony.

Objectives of the Initiative


In an effort to stimulate various rural areas across Japan, SAVOR JAPAN selectively recognises regions that excel in promoting their unique food experiences. The initiative aims not merely to attract tourists, but also to give international visitors a native taste of Japan's diverse culinary heritage. SAVOR, which translates to “savor” or “enjoy”, perfectly encapsulates the essence of what these regions represent.

New Regions Certified


From June to July of this year, the ministry called for plans and initiatives aimed at maximizing local food appeal. After reviewing the submissions, a panel of experts recognized the following three regions for their superior offerings:
1. Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture
- Implementing organization: Fuefuki City Rural Tourism Promotion Council

2. Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture
- Implementing organization: FM Takarazuka Co., Ltd.

3. Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture
- Implementing organization: The Yamato Asuka New Tourism Association

These regions were carefully selected based on their thorough planning and potential to attract visitors seeking authentic Japanese culinary experiences.

Upcoming Certificate Awarding Ceremony


The SAVOR JAPAN certificate awarding ceremony is scheduled for December 23, from 14:00 to 14:30, in the third special conference room on the 7th floor of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Tokyo. Representatives from the certified regions will be present to receive their awards. The ceremony will exclusively allow media coverage, indicating the importance of these recognitions in promoting Japanese culinary tourism.

Media Coverage Information


The awarding ceremony will be open to reporters, allowing for photo and video documentation. Reporters are asked to present identification at the time of registration and follow instructions from the event coordinators. Adjustments to the schedule may occur, so attendees are encouraged to remain flexible.

The Symbol of SAVOR JAPAN


To visually express the essence of Japan’s agriculture and fishing villages, a dedicated logo has been designed. It features elements representing Japan's breathtaking natural scenery as well as the country’s culinary culture. Symbols such as mountains, oceans, rice fields, crops, rivers, and chopsticks are integrated into the logo, painting a vivid picture of the experience that awaits visitors eager to indulge in local flavors.
