National Leaders from Agricultural High Schools Unite to Tackle Nutritional and Health Issues

Leaders in the Future of Agriculture Gather to Address Nutritional Challenges

On May 14, 2026, a significant event was held at the Spring Delegates Meeting of the National School Agricultural Club Federation (FFJ) in Japan. The Japan Association for Optimized Nutrition (JAON), led by President Hiroshi Ito, organized a presentation aimed at addressing pressing societal issues related to nutrition and health through the understanding of 'optimized nutrition.' This program brought together 58 student representatives from various agricultural high schools and 49 accompanying teachers, along with notable guests from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and representatives from the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education, totaling 136 attendees.

The presentation covered critical societal challenges related to nutrition and health that are particularly relevant to today’s youth. It highlighted the consequences of the end of school lunch programs at the middle school level and the dietary restrictions often faced by young women as a result of dieting trends. These issues have led to an alarming imbalance in nutritional intake among adolescents. Participants listened intently as the discussion included the serious risks posed by obesity, frailty, and what is referred to as 'hidden malnutrition' among women.

JAON showcased how 'optimized nutrition,' which is a scientifically designed diet that adjusts for 33 essential nutrients tailored to individual needs, could potentially address these health issues. The audience learned that compromised nutritional balance during teenage years can lead to long-term health problems, including decreased bone density, making individuals more susceptible to osteoporosis in later life. Students from agricultural high schools engaged deeply with the material, reflecting their seriousness regarding their future health outcomes.

Following the lecture, attendees received original FFJ t-shirts emblazoned with the association's logo from the NPO 'Future Support for Agricultural Leaders.' Wearing these shirts during the event solidified a collective commitment among participants to raise awareness about the importance of optimized nutrition.

The Japan Association for Optimized Nutrition intends to vigorously promote the spread of optimized nutrition through collaborative efforts across education, industry, and healthcare sectors to resolve various nutritional challenges facing society today.
