NAMI Introduces New Leadership for 2026-2027
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has welcomed its newly-elected board of directors for the 2026-2027 term, a crucial move aimed at enhancing mental health advocacy across the nation. This organization is recognized as the largest grassroots mental health entity in the United States, dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.
During a pivotal moment for mental health awareness, Daniel H. Gillison, Jr., CEO of NAMI, emphasized the importance of effective leadership in driving the organization’s mission. He expressed confidence in the newly elected board members, asserting that their personal experiences and community connections would strengthen NAMI's efforts to support mental health initiatives.
Jeff Fladen, MSW, continues his role as the president of the board for the upcoming term. With a robust history in mental health advocacy and leadership, Fladen previously served as the executive director of NAMI Tennessee. He has garnered extensive experience in various roles including therapist, crisis counselor, and program director, all of which provide him with a comprehensive perspective on the challenges faced by individuals living with mental health issues.
Fladen shared his inspiration upon resuming his presidency, noting the dedication of countless volunteers and advocates within the organization. “Together, we will continue to build on our progress, transforming lived experiences into meaningful advocacy and impact,” he stated, reflecting on the collective commitment to tackling mental health challenges.
The recent board election concluded on June 10, resulting in the appointment of new members who will each serve three-year terms, with the possibility of extending their tenure for up to two consecutive terms. This governance structure is designed to bring fresh ideas and ongoing commitment to NAMI’s mission.
In his address, Gillison also recognized the contributions of outgoing board members Laklieshia Izzard, Sukhi Sahni, and Dhanu Sannesy, acknowledging their commitment and the impact they've made during their tenure. Their legacy of service is expected to resonate within NAMI's continued efforts.
