San Diego Sheriff's Office Transitions to Mark43 for Enhanced Dispatch Services

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office (SDSO) has marked a significant step forward in public safety technology by adopting the Mark43 platform to enhance its dispatch services. This transition comes as the Sheriff's Office phases out a legacy Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system that had served the agency for over 25 years. With this modernization, SDSO aims to better serve its 3.2 million residents spread across 4,200 square miles.

The new Mark43 system provides upgraded capabilities to over 3,000 sworn personnel, as well as 200 dispatchers and professional staff, enhancing officer safety and situational awareness in emergency responses. "The capabilities of Mark43, coupled with collaboration to tailor the system to SDSO's needs, highlight the importance of strong partnerships in creating tools that effectively serve communities," stated Captain Nathan Rowley of SDSO. He noted immediate improvements in workflows and information access following the deployment.

Bob Hughes, CEO of Mark43, commended the cooperative efforts between the SDSO team and its leadership, emphasizing that the technology must perform at scale to meet the demands of the agency's operations. Chief Technology Officer Ashish Kakkad also highlighted that the new platform addresses operational challenges and enhances overall efficiency.

The roll-out of the Mark43 platform equips dispatchers with advanced features such as modern mapping tools, visual layers, and real-time unit location tracking, which are vital for accurately coordinating incidents. Furthermore, the flexibility afforded by the Mark43 system allows for remote dispatching of non-emergency calls, alleviating pressure on main communications centers and improving staffing capabilities.

In addition to the dispatch functionalities, SDSO personnel can access crucial CAD information directly from their mobile devices and vehicles through Mark43's First Responder platform, which includes enhanced CarPlay features. This connectivity ensures officers remain informed as incidents develop, thereby improving decision-making in real time.

The deployment of Mark43 follows a successful launch earlier this year by the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department, which also utilized the platform to enhance coordinated responses and regional information-sharing. The implementation of this technology aligns with SDSO's long-term strategy to support operational readiness and community safety.

Mark43 stands out in the public safety technology landscape by integrating a unified platform consisting of a Records Management System, Computer-Aided Dispatch, and Data Analytics, thus streamlining workflows and improving response times. Trusted by more than 300 agencies nationwide, Mark43 empowers public safety organizations with innovative tools, fortified cybersecurity, and the adaptability needed to navigate the complexities of modern public safety challenges. In summary, the SDSO's transition to the Mark43 system signifies a critical advancement in delivering responsive and effective public safety services to the citizens of San Diego County, paving the way for enhanced collaboration and operational excellence in emergency management.
