Discover the New BANDAI HOBBY CENTER PDII Museum
Shizuoka City, known as the "Hobby Town" of Japan, is home to a vibrant plastic model industry, boasting an impressive 80% share of the country's total production. To further promote local industries, Shizuoka launched the "Shizuoka City Plastic Modelization Project" in 2020, organizing various related events throughout the year. The latest highlight is the opening of the BANDAI HOBBY CENTER PDII, which includes a new museum dedicated to the production processes of plastic models.
Scheduled to commence operations on July 24, 2025, the museum officially opened its doors on September 2, 2025. It offers a unique educational experience where visitors can not only observe but also engage in hands-on activities related to model design and production. The museum is designed under the theme of “Designing the Value of Plastic Models,” allowing guests to explore the state-of-the-art facilities and innovations that support high-quality product development.
What to Expect at the BANDAI HOBBY CENTER PDII Museum
The museum consists of three main areas:
1.
Viewing Area - Visitors can observe the production processes through large windows, witnessing the intricacies of plastic molding and the assembly of model kits into packaging. This area offers a glimpse into the technology and craftsmanship that constitute BANDAI's renowned products.
2.
Learning Area - The museum features an educational section that explains the entire process of model creation, from concept to production. There are displays that comprehensively illustrate BANDAI’s commitment to craftsmanship, using popular models like Gundam as case studies.
3.
Laboratory Area - Perhaps the most exciting part for aspiring creators is the opportunity to become a "Plamo Designer." This interactive zone allows participants to select shapes and colors for their models using touch panels. Furthermore, they can design the mold and create their own unique model kit, which they can take home in a customized package.
