NTT DOCOMO Shuts Down MANGA MIRAI

NTT DOCOMO, INC. has announced the imminent closure of its digital comic distribution service, MANGA MIRAI, which has catered to U.S. customers since its launch in March 2025. As of 11:59 PM on December 15, 2026, the service will be officially discontinued.

In a transition plan that aims to safeguard users’ investments, DOCOMO will migrate user information along with their purchased titles to MangaPlaza, which is operated by NTT Solmare Corporation based in Osaka, Japan. The timeline for the service shutdown begins with an immediate halt in new memberships and title purchases as of 7:00 PM on August 19, 2026. After this date, users will not be able to buy new titles or use the MANGA MIRAI app. However, access to already purchased titles will remain available until the full closure in December.

MANGA MIRAI has offered a vast library of over 28,000 manga volumes across more than 2,400 titles, primarily providing English versions of popular Japanese manga. The decision to conclude this service comes amid shifting industry dynamics and operational evaluations.

Users must take specific actions to ensure the seamless transfer of their collections. To continue accessing their titles on MangaPlaza, customers are required to set up a new account by the deadline of September 30, 2026.
