Blood Cancer United: A New Era in Blood Cancer Awareness
After more than a decade without a national advertising campaign, Blood Cancer United—formerly known as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)—has launched a bold new initiative to raise awareness and support for blood cancer patients. This groundbreaking campaign comes just in time for Blood Cancer Awareness Month and highlights the organization’s new name and branding strategy aimed at building a community for those affected by blood cancer.
A Fresh Identity
As Blood Cancer United introduces its new identity, it encourages patients to focus on more than just their diagnosis. The campaign emphasizes that every individual battling blood cancer has dreams to pursue, loved ones to cherish, and stories to share. As stated by Lynn Godfrey, Senior Vice President and Chief Experience Officer, the mission is not only to treat cancer but to honor the unique journeys of each patient and the experiences that shape their lives.
Campaign Goals
The campaign sets an ambitious goal: by 2040, Blood Cancer United aims to provide patients with an additional one million years of life. This target signifies the organization’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those battling blood cancers through greater access to resources, treatments, and support systems. Dr. E. Anders Kolb, President and CEO, emphasizes the importance of connecting with patients to manage their treatment options effectively while advocating for comprehensive policy changes that ensure equitable care.
Why Awareness Matters Now More Than Ever
Given the rising costs of healthcare and barriers to effective treatments, increasing awareness surrounding blood cancers has become paramount. Dr. Kolb states, “Dealing with blood cancer is a significant challenge for patients and their families, and current obstacles amplify these difficulties.” Blood Cancer United is dedicated to improving access to essential resources, allowing patients and their families to navigate their journeys with better support.
More Than Just a Diagnosis
In collaboration with the award-winning creative agency Invisible Man, Blood Cancer United is rolling out an integrated advertising campaign that showcases the many facets of life beyond a blood cancer diagnosis. This initiative seeks to resonate deeply with patients by highlighting that they are much more than their illness. The campaign also raises awareness on the over 100 types of blood cancer, which currently lack sufficient detection and prevention methods.
The Emmy-winning journalist and advocate Suleika Jaouad has joined the campaign, sharing her perspective as a blood cancer survivor. “Feeling seen, cared for, and connected is crucial,” Jaouad states, emphasizing the psychological support that Blood Cancer United strives to provide.
A Comprehensive Experience
The campaign will unfold nationwide across television, digital platforms, social media, outdoor advertising, and public relations initiatives, ensuring maximum visibility. Each interaction point with the new brand—from the revamped website to events and fundraising activities—has been redesigned to resonate with and engage the community more inclusively.
