ZTE's Groundbreaking Achievement at WSIS 2025
In a remarkable achievement, ZTE Corporation, a global leader in integrated information and communication technology solutions, has distinguished itself by winning the WSIS Champion Award for its innovative initiative, the 'Signal Reach Program'. Awarded during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2025 Awards Ceremony, this recognition highlights ZTE's commitment to digital inclusivity and sustainable development across Africa.
A Program Addressing Digital Gaps
The 'Signal Reach Program' emerged victorious from a plethora of proposals, marking ZTE as the only Chinese company to receive this esteemed honor in promoting ICT cultural diversity. This accolade reflects ZTE's ongoing efforts toward innovation within the digital technology sector.
The WSIS, co-hosted by various authoritative organizations including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNESCO, seeks to foster sustainable development within the global information society. The WSIS Champion Award is no small feat; it entails rigorous selection criteria that involve expert reviews and online voting. This year, ZTE's project was recognized among numerous submissions, showcasing the best practices in utilizing ICTs to enhance livelihoods.
Key Features of the Signal Reach Program
At the core of the 'Signal Reach Program' are the principles of ultra-fast connectivity, green energy, and inclusive sharing, all directed toward overcoming the challenges of weak digital infrastructure in remote African areas. ZTE's approach provides a comprehensive solution encompassing everything from base station deployment to terminal services.
One of the innovative technologies introduced within this program is the EcoSite base station—an advanced modular base station that can be established in just seven days. Furthermore, these base stations incorporate ZTE's cutting-edge 2TR Tri-band UBR technology. This innovation not only reduces network coverage costs by an astounding 70% but also enhances the efficiency of network expansion by 60% through a simplified upgrade design.
Complementing the EcoSite base stations is the EcoEnergy solution, which guarantees a reliable and stable green energy supply for remote regions. To optimize energy management, ZTE has implemented the iEnergy management software, effectively reducing operational costs while enhancing system sustainability.
As a testament to its effectiveness, the project team successfully deployed 128 base stations in Liberia within a condensed period of three months, providing stable mobile communication services to an impressive 580,000 rural users.
Promoting Cultural Diversity and Inclusion
Moreover, the 'Signal Reach Program' doesn't merely focus on the technological aspects. It emphasizes the importance of cultural diversity as well. By ensuring stable and reliable digital connectivity in remote African regions, the program paves the way for local communities to integrate more fully into the global information society. This fosters cross-cultural exchanges and enhances understanding among diverse cultures, thus furthering the development of cultural diversity across the continent.
During the WSIS+20 High-Level Event, ZTE's Vice President, Summer Chen, participated in the impactful Partner2Connect (P2C) session, elaborating on the company's pride in being among the first recognized P2C Champions by the ITU for its proactive stance in championing global digitalization initiatives. Ms. Chen reaffirmed ZTE's unwavering dedication to advancing digital transformation and promoting sustainable development on a global scale.
Looking Ahead
As ZTE looks to the future, it aims to drive further progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to empower communities globally through inclusive and innovative technologies. The success of the 'Signal Reach Program' is just one stepping stone in ZTE's ongoing journey to bridge the digital divide and create equitable access to vital information and communication services.
