Exploring Alternatives to Hierarchical Organizations: A Seminar on Future Organizational Structures

Seminar on Alternative Organizational Structures

On November 14, 2025, Trustyle Co., Ltd., based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, will host a seminar titled "Are there effective organizations outside of top-down structures?" This event is organized through their community initiative, the Human Resources Library.

As organizations face challenges associated with traditional pyramid-shaped models, many find themselves grappling with issues like members waiting for instructions, overburdened middle management, and a disconnect between executives and their teams. This seminar aims to break through these organizational bottlenecks and explore new possibilities for effective organizational structures through collaboration and learning.

The seminar invites business leaders, HR professionals, managers, and anyone interested in modern work styles and organizational development to participate.

Context and Purpose of the Event

Many Japanese companies have embraced the top-down, pyramid organizational structure for years, which has long been considered the most stable form for harnessing organizational strength. However, this model has led to feelings of stagnation for some, as members become drained by a reliance on directives from superiors, and middle managers struggle in a bind. New concepts like Teal Organizations and self-managing organizations have gained traction, but some may still question their efficacy.

To address these concerns, the Human Resources Library will host this event featuring Yamada Hiroshi, CEO of Reisan-sha, a company dedicated to researching advanced organizations both domestically and internationally. The session will investigate what successful organizations that operate outside of a traditional top-down structure look like, supported by concrete examples.

The goal is for participants to gain insights that will expand their toolbox for organizational building and take meaningful steps toward foundational organizational change.
