Global Connectivity: A Look into the International Sports Industry Expo in Hong Kong

On June 20, 2025, Hong Kong hosted the International Sports Industry Expo titled 'Global Connectivity - Inter-Industry Collaboration.' According to Burden, "Kai Tak Sports Park is not just the main venue for the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China in Hong Kong, but is also rapidly becoming a new hotspot for sports and entertainment enthusiasts in the city."

Ismael Martinez Merchan, a senior associate and architect from Populous, a renowned sports architecture firm, shared insights into designing sporting venues globally. He emphasized how Kai Tak Sports Park connects with local culture while maintaining an international appeal.

Looking ahead, Chengdu is slated to host the 2025 World Games in August. Special presentations about promoting the World Games in Chengdu were part of the event. Geely Holding Group, the official partner of the games, offered valuable perspectives on how large sporting events can enhance city visibility. A representative from the group stated, "The World Games are not merely a competitive platform but also an opportunity to showcase the city’s culture and innovation."

Furthermore, participants from the well-known esports organization AG E-sports Club (Chengdu) and the Chengdu Happy Sports Development Group shared their achievements and future development plans.

During a panel discussion, experts examined ways to further increase city visibility and impact through international sporting events. It was unanimously recognized that the sports industry has become a new driving force for economic, cultural, and social development in cities.
