On July 5th, a new culinary gem opened its doors in Hatagaya, Tokyo: Akarimado, a charcoal cooking restaurant that marks a new venture for Attic Planning, a company celebrating its 20th anniversary in the café business. The restaurant aims to redefine the izakaya experience by maximizing the flavors of its ingredients centered around charcoal grilling.

The concept of Akarimado revolves around bringing out the best of its ingredients while introducing an innovative combination of flavor butters. This unique approach enhances the rich and smoky aroma of charcoal, creating flavors that are both nostalgic and refreshingly new.

Signature dishes include a delightful French toast with lemon sugar butter, offering a sweet yet savory taste that tantalizes the palate. But that’s just the beginning. The restaurant sources most of its vegetables from Shibakai Farm, an organic farming operation in Chiba's Inzai city, boasting 400 years of tradition. Diners can savor seasonal vegetables that are carefully grilled over charcoal and paired with rich butters, allowing them to experience the true essence of nature’s bounty.

The vegetable offerings also feature a beautiful selection of roasted vegetables and organically grown herb salads. Each dish is crafted to emphasize the freshness and authenticity of the ingredients, highlighting the meticulous care put into their cultivation by Shibakai.

To accompany this exquisite food, Akarimado offers an impressive array of natural wines. These wines, crafted through traditional methods, complement the sweetness of the vegetables and the aromatic qualities of the grilled dishes. Additionally, the restaurant boasts a special drink made with Chiran tea from Kagoshima, providing an aromatic and mellow flavor that pairs seamlessly with the charcoal-grilled fare.

Some standout menu items showcase the restaurant's diverse offerings, such as whole grilled mackerel, deep-fried tulip Caesar salad, miso-marinated sardine rice, grilled sea bream rice, and grilled beef tongue topped with a fried egg yolk and chives. These dishes reflect the restaurant's dedication to quality and thoughtful preparation.
