DODGEN Achieves Key Devolatilization Milestones in China

In a significant advancement in the field of petrochemical processing, DODGEN has successfully initiated devolatilization technology in three major polyolefin elastomer (POE) projects across China in 2026. This achievement underscores DODGEN’s pivotal role in enhancing the operational performance and product consistency within the polyolefin industry.

Project Highlights

The year witnessed two successful launches of DODGEN’s devolatilization technology at major plants: CNPC Daqing Petrochemical and Xingchuan New Materials. Specifically, on September 23, the CNPC Daqing Petrochemical facility, capable of producing 30,000 tonnes annually, completed its entire process flow and impressively manufactured on-specification products by September 26. This first-attempt start-up serves as a testament to DODGEN's technology as it engineered and supplied the crucial core equipment for the devolatilization segment of the plant.

Simultaneously, Xingchuan New Materials resounded a similar success on September 12, producing its first on-specification outputs from its 10,000-tonne-scale hyperbranched POE (H-POE) plant. This venture also marked its debut run, which reflects DODGEN's comprehensive solutions for their polymer devolatilization unit based on the innovative DSXL devolatilization platform.

In addition, DODGEN made strategic strides with Shaanxi Yuneng, a subsidiary of Yulin Energy Group, where they signed a contract on May 21 to provide the devolatilization system for a prospective 100,000-tonne-per-year POE unit. This system is set to efficiently remove volatile components including heptane solvent and ethylene, marking a crucial phase in the customer's resin integration project located in the Shenmu High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. Further updates on this project is anticipated.

The Importance of Devolatilization

Understanding the path to polymer effectiveness involves recognizing the importance of devolatilization, particularly post-solution polymerization. Once polymer solutions or melts are synthesized, they still retain solvents, unreacted monomers, and various other volatile constituents that require careful removal to meet specific residual limits. Managing this removal process effectively is crucial as it heavily influences high viscosity challenges, heat-transfer limitations, narrowly defined temperature windows, and the necessity for continuous operational stability.

DODGEN’s technology holds transformative potential as it directly influences residual levels, contributes to preserving molecular structure, stabilizes pelletizing processes, maintains batch consistency, and minimizes energy consumption. The innovation of the DSXL platform boasts state-of-the-art heat transfer capabilities tailored for viscous fluids. Its design accommodates static mixing and uniform melt distribution along with adaptable flash and vacuum devolatilization stages.

Critical evaluation elements include assessing feed rheology, determining product-specific residual limits and their related test methodologies, as well as evaluating systems for capacity, operating flexibility, and downstream constraints, which encompass vacuum, condensation, solvent recovery, melt discharge, and pelletizing processes.
