IREX Welcomes Aleksander Dardeli as New CEO
On September 1, 2025, the IREX Board of Trustees appointed Aleksander (Aleks) Dardeli as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization. This announcement reflects the board's confidence in Dardeli's ability to redefine opportunities and lead IREX towards innovative growth.
Dardeli returns to IREX with a bold vision and strategic flexibility, ready to chart new pathways for the organization. Previously, he served as IREX's Executive Vice President, where he oversaw the organization’s expansion into global markets, facilitated innovation processes, strengthened management systems, and led the acquisition of Development Gateway, an organization whose mission aligns with IREX's goals. His extensive experience makes him exceptionally suited for this pivotal role.
Before stepping back into IREX, Dardeli held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Save the Children, guiding strategic planning and organizational outcomes. His rich background in international development spans over 25 years, including leadership roles at IBI International, DynCorp International/Casals, East-West Management Institute, and the International Development Law Organization. Throughout his career, he has focused on education, leadership, and the empowerment of both private and public institutions across the United States, emerging economies, and conflict-affected regions.
David A. Gross, Chair of the Board, expressed enthusiasm about Dardeli’s return, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Aleks back to IREX. His experience and forward-thinking approach are invaluable in this age of change. Aleks understands how to build strong partnerships and navigate complex situations. We believe he will lead IREX toward continued growth."
Additionally, Kate Thompson, the interim CEO, remarked on the new energy Dardeli brings, highlighting that his leadership will enhance the organization, which is already known for its strong programs and talented team.
"IREX has a rich tradition of transforming educational systems and bringing people together to solve problems. I eagerly look forward to collaborating with the team, the board, and our global supporters to expand opportunities, shape innovative solutions, and achieve lasting results for communities throughout America and beyond," stated Dardeli.
Dardeli's commitment to IREX’s mission—with a focus on supporting leaders, creating opportunities for youth, and ensuring access to high-quality education and information—will guide his tenure. IREX is dedicated to producing measurable and sustainable outcomes in the communities it serves.
