Costa Rica Leads Latin America in Reputation According to the RepCore Nations 2025 Study
Costa Rica's Standing in Latin America
According to the recently published RepCore Nations 2025 study by Reputation Lab, Costa Rica has secured the top spot in reputation across Latin America. This finding emerges from an analysis focused on public perception in the world's major industrialized economies, including the G7 countries: the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada. In this comprehensive assessment, Costa Rica stood out as the best-rated Latin American nation among 20 evaluated countries within the region.
Following Costa Rica in reputation are Peru and Puerto Rico, ranked second and third, respectively. The study emphasizes the critical role of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors as determinants of national reputations. The report identifies ethical standards and environmental performance as the most influential dimensions according to respondents from the G7 bloc.
Adriana Acosta, the director of the national brand essential COSTA RICA, noted that the results of the RepCore Nations 2025 study reaffirm a well-known truth in Costa Rica. "When a country prioritizes sustainability, ethics, and the well-being of its people, it builds trust. Our international reputation reflects this collective commitment and the coordinated efforts of public institutions, the private sector, and citizens."
Additionally, the report indicates a correlation between better national reputations and increased tourism attractions, larger direct foreign investments, and improved export performance. Historical analysis comparing four years of UN tourism data and UN trade and development data with the RepScore indicator from RepCore Nations reveals that a one-point increase in RepScore is typically associated with a 7.2% rise in the economic value of tourist arrivals and a 1% increase in direct foreign investment.
The methodology utilized in this study was grounded in over 61,000 surveys conducted in 38 countries, reinforcing Costa Rica's reputation as a reliable and admired nation recognized for its sustainable development leadership, robust institutional framework, and high quality of life. These attributes continue to enhance the country’s international projection and support the strategic efforts of the national brand essential COSTA RICA.
In conclusion, Costa Rica's impressive reputation is not only a point of national pride but also a significant asset for its economic development and global standing. Further leveraging this reputation could yield beneficial outcomes for tourism, investment, and overall economic prosperity in the years to come.
