GC Corporation Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Biomaterials Factory

On May 18, 2026, GC Corporation, a comprehensive dental healthcare manufacturer headquartered in Bunkyo, Tokyo, conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new biomaterials factory in Oyama, Shizuoka Prefecture. This significant event marks a pivotal step in the expansion of the company’s operations, which seek to meet the growing demands of advanced dental healthcare.

The new facility, named the "Oyama Factory for Biomaterials," is part of GC Corporation’s broader strategy to enhance its production capabilities in the field of biomaterials. In recent years, the company has increasingly focused on developing high-tech solutions, specifically bone graft materials and absorbable membranes. In July 2023, GC took over the collagen business from Therma Biomaterials, significantly bolstering its portfolio with products related to dental extraction site protection and dermal grafts for plastic surgery and emergency medical use. This transition illustrates GC's commitment to advancing its biomaterials business across both dental and medical sectors.

The Oyama Factory is set to produce various biomaterial products under stringent manufacturing and quality controls necessary for Class IV medical devices. To ensure compliance with the latest industry standards, the facility will feature large clean rooms and specialized clean benches designed according to the characteristics of the products and processes involved, thereby maintaining exceptionally high levels of production management and quality assurance.

GC Corporation aims to be a leading company in the dental industry, as outlined in its Vision 2031 commitment to realizing a society that promotes long-term health and longevity. The Oyama Factory is envisioned as a mother factory that not only focuses on the business aspect but also emphasizes social and environmental responsibility. The facility is expected to create new value while actively contributing to the local community and the environment.

Over the years, it has produced essential materials and equipment needed for dental treatment. Currently, the site operates five factories, and its products are sold in over 145 countries, supporting oral health globally.

The factory has been recognized for its active commitment to environmental conservation, receiving prestigious awards including the Chairman's Award from the Japan Greening Association in 2008, the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry Award in 2016, and the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Award in 2020. Its fifth factory, completed in 2025, embraced the theme of sustainable architecture, utilizing renewable energy and achieving Zero Energy Building (ZEB) certification.

GC Corporation’s dedication to pioneering dental healthcare innovations while maintaining environmental stewardship positions it as a leader in the industry, with the new Oyama Factory for Biomaterials set to play a crucial role in its future endeavors.
