Kayem's Unique Art Series: A Celebration of American Heritage
As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Kayem, revered as New England's top frankfurter brand, is stepping up to the occasion with a whimsical and historical initiative titled "There When It Mattered Most." This innovative campaign aims to explore the symbolism of hot dogs within the context of America's founding moments, launching this summer in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA).
Transforming History Through Art
The core of this campaign includes a traveling art series that creatively reinterprets significant moments and figures from American history, featuring hot dogs in pivotal scenes. By cleverly inserting this beloved food into iconic historical narratives, Kayem plans to tell a tongue-in-cheek story of how hot dogs were an integral part of America’s journey.
The tour will kick off with a public exhibition at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston on June 4, 2026, showcasing pieces that have been transformed for this unique artistic endeavor. Following this one-day event, selected works will journey across New England throughout June and July, including various well-known venues that are deeply entrenched in local culture and history.
Matt Monkiewicz, President and CEO of Kayem Foods, states, "Kayem is always there for when it matters most—BBQs, family dinners, ballgames, and now America's 250th birthday. We’re thrilled to partner with the MFA Boston, bringing art and tradition together in a celebration that highlights how essential food is in creating memorable moments."
The Collaboration with Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
On view at the MFA from June 24 to July 24, select campaign artworks will be displayed in the museum's cafeteria, a fitting backdrop for this historical exploration. Visitors to the MFA will also have the opportunity to view the original artworks in the newly reopened 18th-century Art of the Americas galleries. The unveiling of these galleries will coincide with the museum’s annual Juneteenth event on June 19, featuring free programming for Massachusetts residents, including art-making activities and performances.
Nonie Gadsden, Senior Curator of American Decorative Arts at the MFA, expresses enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing that it provides a fun and engaging way to connect with history. "This campaign invites audiences to engage with both whimsical and authentic interpretations of the narrative that shapes our American story," she remarks.
A Hot Dog History Adventure
In addition to the Faneuil Hall debut, the art series will have several stops at cultural and community hotspots, including:
- - Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport (June 15 – June 21)
- - Cisco Brewers – Boston Seaport (June 22 – June 24)
- - Fenway Park, Gate A (June 25 – June 26)
- - American Independence Museum, Exeter, NH (July 11 – July 19)
Throughout the summer, additional pop-up art installations are expected, encouraging consumers to join in on social media as they follow the traveling series.
A Commemorative Flavor
Marking this historic celebration, Kayem has also introduced commemorative 250th packaging and a new limited-edition product—the Cannon Fire Hot Dog. Featuring a smoky and spicy twist on a classic, this product is available at retailers across New England for $2.50 per four-pack, embodying a celebration of flavor alongside the nation's rich heritage.
