Celebrate the Best Sake in the World: SAKE COMPETITION 2026 Special Program

This fall, get ready to immerse yourself in the world of exquisite Japanese sake as the SAKE COMPETITION 2026 special program is set to air on BS-TBS. This exciting event focuses on determining the most delicious commercially available sake and includes highlights from the awarding ceremony and unveiling event in Los Angeles.

The SAKE COMPETITION, established in 2012, centers on the core principle of helping consumers discover genuinely delicious sake, regardless of brand. This unique competition only judges commercially available sake and employs a blind-tasting method to guarantee that the examination focuses purely on the quality of the liquid. Therefore, any brand has an opportunity to shine and take the top prize.

This year marks the 12th edition of the competition, which will include five main categories: Junmai, Junmai Ginjo, Junmai Daiginjo, Super Premium, and Modern Natural. Additionally, to commemorate the planned restoration of the Shuri Castle Main Hall set for fall 2026, a special judging category for Awamori (Okinawa's traditional distilled liquor) has been incorporated. Participating breweries have submitted over 1,000 entries from 367 different sake breweries worldwide across these categories.

The awarding ceremony will take place on June 10 in a grand atmosphere where the top entries across all categories will be announced. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy the award-winning sake, and there’s an opportunity to experience gourmet dishes curated by the head chef of Hachipon Restaurant, who will create marvelous pairings with the sake winners.
