Recognizing this, Liberaware's team, leveraging their prior experience at the Noto Peninsula earthquake site, resolved to enhance their miniature drone, the IBIS2. This improved version aims to provide a comprehensive wireless connection and real-time thermal detection capabilities, allowing the drone to substitute for human searchers inside collapsed buildings.

Product Overview


The core of this project revolves around enhancing the IBIS2 drone and its auxiliary equipment to expedite the search for entombed survivors. The key areas of research and development include:
1. Automatic Connection to Strongest Signal: A system whereby the IBIS2 drone connects automatically to the strongest wireless signal from multiple transmitters in the area.
2. Real-Time Thermal Imaging: The integration of a compact thermal camera that transmits footage live, aiding the search efforts.

Development Innovations


1. Multi-Extension Antenna: Previously, each IBIS2 could only connect to a single wireless device, limiting the reach of signal penetration in collapsed buildings. By developing a multi-connection system, the drone can now engage with various wireless set-ups, significantly broadening its operational range.
2. Dedicated Thermal Camera: A specialized thermal camera mounted on the drone captures images in real-time. This innovation is crucial for addressing the visibility issues commonly encountered in collapsed structures, providing greater chances for early detection and minimizing the risk of overlooking potential survivors.

Experimental Trials


The initial testing of this emerging technology has taken place at designated police facilities, showcasing the IBIS2 drone in simulated disaster scenarios.
