SPIRE® Literacy Program Now Accessible via NYC FAMIS Portal for Educators

SPIRE® Literacy Program Now Available for NYC Educators

In a significant move for educators in New York City, the SPIRE® literacy intervention program by EPS Learning has been made accessible through the city's FAMIS portal. This development allows teachers from public, private, and charter schools that receive city funding to purchase the program in a streamlined manner for the 2024-25 academic year.

Boosting Literacy Skills

SPIRE® stands out as a comprehensive reading curriculum focused on developing foundational skills. With over a decade of service to NYC students, it provides structured literacy instruction based on the Orton-Gillingham approach targeted at second and third-level students, those in special education programs, ELL/ML learners, and students diagnosed with dyslexia. By integrating evidence-based practices that align with the science of reading, SPIRE enhances the reading competency of students, opening paths to mastery and confidence.

Steven Guttentag, the CEO of EPS Learning, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Reading is the foundation of learning, and we believe SPIRE can transform struggling novice readers, including those with dyslexia, into successful and confident readers. We are excited that more educators can access this intervention program through FAMIS."

Supporting All Students

SPIRE® recently achieved a Level 3 certification for its alignment with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) regulations, further solidifying its standing as an effective intervention tool. The program emphasizes key instructional strategies, including:

  • - Explicit and Systematic Instruction: SPIRE provides guided lessons tailored to classroom needs, utilizing engaging activities that help students achieve mastery.
  • - Multisensory Techniques: The curriculum incorporates visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • - Phonological Approach: A strong emphasis on phonological awareness, sound-symbol correlation, syllables, morphology, syntax, and semantics ensures a well-rounded literacy education.

Easy Access for Educators

Educators wishing to acquire SPIRE® for their classrooms can do so through the FAMIS portal, which simplifies the purchasing process.
