Canton Fair Celebrates a Decade of Growth in the Pet Industry Economy

The 137th China Import and Export Fair, or Canton Fair, saw its 3rd phase held from May 1 to May 5, 2025. This particular phase marked the eleventh anniversary of its dedicated exhibition zone focused solely on pet products, including food and hygiene goods. Since its inception during the 116th session in 2014, this specific area has mirrored the significant evolution of the pet industry itself. Pets have transitioned from mere companions to vital contributors to consumer spending trends in various markets.

Data collected from market research indicate a steady growth trajectory across multiple segments of the pet economy. These include sectors such as pet food, hygiene products, and smart feeders, all revealing a wealth of potential. According to reports from Global Market Insights, the pet accessories market alone reached a staggering $23.4 billion in 2024, with predictions pointing to an increase to $49.6 billion by 2034. This translates to a projected annual growth rate of 7.9%. As the industry expands, the uptick in competition compels companies to continuously innovate and adapt.

Among the exhibitors, Puyuan (Dalian) Pet Products Co., Ltd. marked its fifth participation in the Canton Fair. The company's operations director, May Wu, shared that the fair offers unique advantages compared to specialized exhibitions, drawing a more diverse buyer pool. This enriched access allows for engagement with procurement teams typically absent from niche trade shows. Consequently, the Canton Fair has proven instrumental in expanding their customer segments, leading to larger orders from prominent retailers and supermarkets.

In a similar vein, Hangzhou TianYuan Pet Products Co., Ltd. has pledged its commitment to innovation by introducing new offerings at each fair edition. Marketing director Haha remarked that only a few years prior, the industry was still in its infancy, but it has since reached impressive scales. With over two decades in the industry, TianYuan has been a firsthand witness to this transformation.

The Canton Fair has played a crucial role in tracking the rapid developments within the pet industry. Initially focussed on essential products like food and toys, the exhibition zone has matured into a hub for innovation. Notable introductions include award-winning products that employ voice activation and lasers to engage cats, easing their anxiety and fostering physical activity. Additional products spotlight the importance of comfort in human-animal coexistence, whether through multifunctional furniture for pet owners or oxygen-infused mineral litter that creates a healthier home environment.

The evolution of the Canton Fair’s pet product and food zone not only reflects advancements within the industry but also emphasizes the deepening bond between humans and their animal companions. Through such expos, the reflection of societal shifts towards pet ownership and care can be witnessed firsthand, highlighting the industry's promising future in catering not just to pets, but enhancing the overall quality of life for both pets and their owners alike. As we celebrate this decade of growth at the Canton Fair, it is clear that the journey of innovation will continue to flourish, ensuring that pets remain integral to our lives and economy.
