Asian Hall of Fame Expands Community Impact at Founders Gala
On August 14, 2026, the Asian Hall of Fame (AHOF) proudly hosted its Founders Gala at the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing mission to enrich the community. The gala recognized notable philanthropists Jerry and Charlene Lee, who were awarded the title of 'Class of 2026' honorees by Omar and Christine Lee, fellow members of AHOF. The event drew a full house, showcasing the growing influence of the organization.
The evening was emceed by Emmy Award-winning journalist Molly Shen of KOMO News, adding to the gala's prestige. The presence of the Leed has not only highlighted their commitment to philanthropy but also their longstanding leadership within the Seattle community. Jerry Lee, notably one of the founding board members of AHOF, has been instrumental in shaping the organization's vision.
Reflecting on their honor, Jerry and Charlene expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, attributing their dedication to community service to the values instilled in them by their parents. Growing up in Portland, they witnessed their parents run a grocery store in a challenging neighborhood. Their father often extended credit to customers who could not afford groceries, which fostered a supportive relationship with the community. This tradition of generosity and caring has certainly influenced Jerry and Charlene's philanthropic endeavors.
AHOF’s CEO, Ming-Chin Hsieh, emphasized that the gala attendees are valued not for their wealth or status but for their kindness and community spirit. Seattle, being the birthplace of AHOF, holds special significance, and the gala served as a testament to the city’s progressive ideals and corporate leadership.
Funds raised from the gala will support AHOF’s scholarship program aimed at empowering women from diverse backgrounds in the fields of technology, entertainment, science, and sports. This year, the initiative attracted 107 applications from across 32 states and Puerto Rico. The three scholarship recipients honored during the gala—Samantha Rosales and Stormy Woodenlegs-Boling from Native American College and Brianna Pavan Lopez from Washington High School—each received scholarships and celebrated on the red carpet.
The evening was further enhanced by local sponsorships from organizations such as Microsoft, Gobo Enterprises, and the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe. Music played a big role in establishing the unique Seattle atmosphere, featuring performances from AHOF ambassador Krist Novoselic of Nirvana and Kim Thayil from Soundgarden. The presence of various artists like Ed Roth, Hiro Yamamoto, and other musical talents enriched the event, creating a vibrant celebration of culture.
Highlighting ongoing commitment to AHOF, Sapphire Awards were presented to Jon and Bobbe Bridge, and Seattle Seahawks representative Mike Flood recognized for their continuous support over five years. Additionally, awards were given to the Robert Chinn Foundation for its role in founding AHOF, showcasing the significance of collaborative community support.
As part of the festivities, there were raffle prizes donated by various honorees and local businesses, including luxury items from Hermès and Louis Vuitton, ensuring an enjoyable evening for all attendees. The raffle, managed by notable figures including Miss Washington 2026 and Miss Bellevue 2023, added excitement to the night.
The gala attracted an array of distinguished guests, including representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, local dignitaries, and media personalities. It reflects an ongoing commitment to honor and promote cultural heritage, allowing the Asian Hall of Fame to make a lasting impact on future generations.
