Health Net, a leading managed care health plan in California under Centene Corporation, has allocated a remarkable $31.25 million in funding aimed at creating housing stability for over 900 families across four counties by 2026. This initiative is particularly impactful as it addresses the critical need for affordable housing in the state, which has been a growing concern for many residents.
The investment will fund the development of ten specific housing projects in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus Counties. This move represents a significant portion—84%—of a larger $37 million investment plan that Health Net has set to expand affordable housing for low-income families. Notably, since 2020, Health Net has focused heavily on housing and homelessness-related initiatives, contributing a total of $93 million towards these causes. Dorothy Seleski, President of Medi-Cal for Health Net, emphasized the importance of creating pathways to stable housing, stating that it goes beyond mere construction; it is about restoring hope, dignity, and opportunities for the most vulnerable communities.
Safe and affordable housing is essential for individuals to manage chronic health conditions, maintain employment, and access necessary public services. By addressing the social determinants of health, the initiative aims to improve public health outcomes, which can also lessen the burden on California's emergency services, a system currently facing significant pressure.
California Assemblymember Buffy Wicks praised this investment as a critical step toward ensuring that families across the state have access to stable and safe homes. "By enhancing our housing infrastructure, we are laying the groundwork for improved health, educational opportunities, and economic stability for all residents," Wicks stated.

This showcases what is achievable when organizations unite around a shared commitment to ending housing insecurity and building a brighter future."
