St. Luke's University Health Network is about to launch an ambitious new facility: the St. Luke's Heart Hospital, located at the St. Luke's Anderson Campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Scheduled to open in October 2026, this establishment represents the largest construction project in the health network’s rich, 150-year history, with an investment of $252 million. The new Heart Hospital is an impressive five-story structure, encompassing approximately 355,000 square feet. Built entirely from American steel, this modern facility ensures that the highest standards of construction and safety are maintained. Visitors will find a central corridor on the upper floors that extends 330 feet, akin to the length of a football field, symbolizing the network’s commitment to spacious and patient-friendly environments.

Construction of the hospital commenced in 2024, engaging hundreds of skilled laborers and ensuring community support through job creation. Once operational, the Heart Hospital will not only provide direct healthcare services but will also support hundreds of permanent jobs that will sustain families in the region.

One of the standout features of the Heart Hospital is the addition of 140 patient beds, effectively doubling the capacity of the Anderson Campus. The integration of heart-lung machines will assist during open-heart surgeries, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines will provide critical, long-term cardiopulmonary support.

In recent years, St. Luke's has established itself as a leader in healthcare within Pennsylvania by constructing five full-service acute care hospitals, more than any other health system in the state. This dedication continues with the Heart Hospital, which is also designed to support education and innovation within the medical field.
