PeakCU Foundation Allocates $97,500 in Scholarships for Students in Oregon and Washington
The PeakCU Foundation, a philanthropic arm of the Peak Credit Union, has recently awarded a substantial $97,500 in scholarships to support 48 deserving students across Oregon and Washington. This initiative not only emphasizes the foundation's longstanding commitment to enhancing educational opportunities but also represents a significant investment in the future of local communities.
In 2026, the foundation provided 44 scholarships valued at $2,000 each for higher education, alongside four specialty legacy scholarships. These grants cater to a diverse range of educational aspirations, including university degrees, community college, vocational training, and career-oriented programs. This year’s scholarship effort aligns with Peak Credit Union’s philosophy that investing in education is crucial to fostering strong communities and paving the way for future leaders.
Dr. David Tuyo II, the CEO and President of Peak Credit Union, expressed the transformative power of education, stating, "Education changes lives, families and entire communities. Each scholarship we grant symbolizes faith in an individual's potential. Whether pursuing a university degree or vocational training, we aim to ensure students feel their community is rooting for them. The scholars we support today are tomorrow's innovators, leaders, and professionals that will shape Oregon and Washington for generations to come."
The annual scholarship program is available to members of Peak Credit Union who are actively seeking higher education or continued learning opportunities. The selection process is competitive, evaluating applicants based on academic performance, community involvement, leadership skills, and future aspirations. This year, the foundation received an impressive 200 applications for the 2026 scholarships.
With the combined legacies of TwinStar Credit Union and Northwest Community Credit Union, the scholarship program has distributed a total of $1,557,500 to students in the region. Dr. Tuyo remarked on the significance of this legacy, noting that the unification of the two organizations under the Peak banner has created a more substantial impact on the community. "Members have consistently believed that vibrant communities start with accessible opportunities, and supporting students through scholarship programs exemplifies how a member-owned credit union can enact meaningful change."
The PeakCU Foundation's commitment extends beyond scholarships, as it also champions broader initiatives aimed at improving education and community well-being. Alongside the scholarship program, the foundation offers classroom grants, supports financial literacy efforts, addresses school lunch debt relief, and implements various programs designed to help students, educators, and families thrive across Oregon and Washington.
As Peak Credit Union continues to honor the legacies of its predecessors, it remains steadfast in its mission to broaden opportunities for future generations through impactful local investments. The PeakCU Foundation, recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, strives to uphold its focus on community, having invested millions into local initiatives for education, food security, and overall community well-being since its inception.
Through scholarships and various community support programs, the PeakCU Foundation underlines its commitment to fostering a brighter future for the students it serves. By nurturing local talent and investing in education, the foundation aims to create a ripple effect of positive change in the region, demonstrating the profound influence of community-driven efforts on individual and collective success.
