The standout event at Toyota's recently inaugurated exhibition center is A Room Where Design is Born, an innovative installation crafted by designer Takumi Yamamoto. The Vision Behind the Installation

The concept of this installation aims to illustrate Yamamoto's creative process—transforming ideas on a 2D sketch into a tangible 3D object. This process encompasses a series of stages: imagining, designing, and finally fabricating. ExtraBold has collaborated closely with Yamamoto to bring this vision to life, utilizing advanced 3D data processing techniques including split and joint designs, which play a crucial role in creating complex structures.

The installation is made possible through the employment of large-format 3D printers such as the EXF-12 and collaborative robotic printers like the REX-BUTLER, which allowed for intricate shapes and detailed craftsmanship. This thorough support spans from material verification to the final production stage.

The Partnership with Toyota

In a significant milestone for environmental innovation, Toyota's environment-friendly material TABWD® has been integrated into the installation. This remarkable material is derived from sustainably harvested cedar trees, underscoring Toyota Tsusho's dedication to forest conservation and the regeneration of Japan's woodlands. With its wood-like texture and adaptable resin properties, TABWD® not only aids in ecological sustainability but also enhances creative expression through varied design possibilities.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

On August 4, 2026, the unveiling of A Room Where Design is Born featured discussions among integral figures from both ExtraBold and Toyota Tsusho.
