Huawei and JA Solar Launch Green Education Initiative

In an ambitious move to foster sustainability and digital skills among Thai youth, Huawei and JA Solar have launched the Green Education Project in collaboration with UNESCO and Thailand's Ministry of Education. This initiative, part of Huawei's broader TECH4ALL initiative, aims to build a new generation of individuals who are both green-skilled and digitally empowered. The project will introduce renewable energy solutions and ICT (Information and Communications Technology) training to 11 schools and community hubs across the country.

Official Launch and Objectives

The official launch occurred on December 3, 2024, in Nakhon Nayok, coinciding with the installation of a solar-powered rooftop at the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center, one of the first beneficiaries of the project. As David Li, CEO of Huawei Thailand, pointed out, "The Green Education Project is more than just a CSR initiative—it represents a long-term commitment to the youth of Thailand and their future.” By integrating clean energy solutions with practical education, the project seeks to foster a model of sustainable growth and inclusion.

The project focuses on equipping schools and community hubs with renewable energy systems to address the educational and energy challenges faced, particularly in rural regions. The initiative also resonates with the national agenda for green innovation, focusing on empowering local communities with valuable digital and technical skills.

The two initial locations participating in the project—the Banna District Learning Center and Kanchanapisek Vocational Training College—will play crucial roles in this mission. The Banna District hub will provide free training sessions in green energy and digital literacy, targeting underserved areas. Meanwhile, the vocational college will utilize donated photovoltaic (PV) systems to teach students vital skills in installation, maintenance, and operations related to renewable energy, boosting their employability in this growing sector.

Local educators have responded positively to the potential benefits of the Green Education Project. Tisakorn Klinbooppha, Director of Banna District Learning Encouragement Center, expressed optimism about the initiative, noting, "This project showcases how collaboration between international enterprises and local institutions can catalyze significant change. The donations of solar technology will provide our students with hands-on experiences, giving them a competitive edge in the job market.”

Main Pillars of the Green Education Project

The success of the Green Education Project rests on three foundational pillars:

1. Green Schools for Secondary Education: This component will see the installation of rooftop solar panels in secondary schools, coupled with training for both students and teachers on the benefits and operations of renewable energy.
2. Green Schools for Vocational Education: Here, the goal is to empower students at technical schools to gain hands-on experience with photovoltaic systems, preparing them for careers in the burgeoning renewable energy market.
3. Green Communities: The focus of this pillar will be to provide public libraries and other learning centers with renewable energy solutions and mobile digital education programs, which include training in areas like green energy and cybersecurity.

The innovative Huawei Digital Bus has made significant strides in this area, already providing free training on green energy concepts and cybersecurity to students in Nakhon Nayok. So far, the bus has traveled to ten provinces, reaching 4,500 students and equipping them with the knowledge and skills essential for contributing to a sustainable future.
