Sinopec Hosts Cultural Ambassadors Award Ceremony in Algeria

In a significant cultural initiative, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (HKG: 0386, "Sinopec") held a ceremonial event in Algiers, marking the final selection and awards for the program titled "In Search of China-Algeria Youth Cultural Ambassadors." This ceremony, held on November 12, 2025, celebrated the efforts of five outstanding young participants, recognized for their impactful storytelling promoting bilateral cooperation from a youth perspective.

This event underscores Sinopec’s commitment to enhancing cultural exchanges and fostering strong relationships between China and Algeria. As part of the broader initiative to drive youth development within the framework of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, this awards program serves as a vital platform for cultural interaction, paving the way for long-term cooperative relations.

Yongsheng Yu, the General Manager of Sinopec's Brand Department, emphasized the company’s dedication to energy balance and cultural collaboration in Africa. Yu stated, “These young ambassadors exemplify how intercultural exchange can invigorate the next generation, becoming essential links for mutual understanding.”

The ceremony drew praise from various dignitaries, including Smail Debbache, President of the Algeria-China Friendship Association, who commended the program for building communication bridges between the youth of both nations. He articulated, “This initiative not only highlights the diversity and allure of our cultures, but also underscores Sinopec’s proactive role in fostering sincere connections and mutual learning.”

Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, reflected on her youthful experiences with Chinese philosophy, particularly the enduring impacts of Confucian thought. She urged the youth of both countries to act as cultural ambassadors, utilizing exchanges to forge lasting bonds and guarantee intergenerational friendships. Guo Jianjun, the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Algeria, noted the profound friendship rooted in the ancient Silk Road, which is now blossoming under the Belt and Road Initiative. He remarked, “Youth represents the future of friendship between China and Algeria. We hope they embrace openness and innovation to create new chapters of collaboration.”

Since its inception, the program has actively engaged numerous young people from Generation Z. The initiative saw Algerian youth submit 165 entries, including short videos and vlogs showcasing stories related to the Belt and Road Initiative and the spirit of bilateral goodwill. Following extensive evaluations, 30 submissions progressed to the semifinals, where 15 finalists presented their works on stage, ultimately leading to the selection of five as cultural ambassadors.

This ceremony highlights Sinopec's strategic move towards not just economic partnerships but also fostering a cultural dialogue between nations. As both nations continue to celebrate their shared history and collaborative endeavors, events like these forge deeper connections and lay groundwork for innovation and understanding in future generations.
