Closing Ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games
On April 30, 2026, the vibrant city of Sanya in Hainan hosted the closing ceremony for the 6th Asian Beach Games at Yasha Park. Titled "Starlit Night," the event celebrated the themes of youth, friendship, and moving forward, while encapsulating the essence of the Games. The ceremony paid tribute to the most unforgettable moments from the event, emphasizing a shared vision of "Asia as One Family". It highlighted the speed and vitality of China's development, particularly showcasing Hainan as a Free Trade Port, drawing attention to its potential as an international sports hub.
The Games took place from April 22 to 30, attracting an impressive turnout of more than 1,600 athletes from 45 countries and regions across Asia. This collective participation created a picturesque "family portrait" of Asian sportsmanship. The Chinese delegation notably excelled, leading the medal standings with a total of 55 medals, which included 24 golds, 18 silvers, and 13 bronzes, marking their best performance in the history of the Asian Beach Games. Following China, Thailand and Iran secured the second and third spots in the medal tally, showcasing the region's competitive spirit.
During the closing ceremony, prominent figures such as Gao Zhidan, the President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, and Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, the President of the Olympic Council of Asia, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the Games. Gao emphasized how the people of Hainan have showcased the distinctive charm of the Free Trade Port, blending enthusiasm with determination to present a spectacular edition of the Asian Beach Games, characterized by "Chinese features, Asian style, and remarkable excellence".
He further articulated a hopeful vision for the future—encouraging Asia to unite through sports to promote peace and inclusivity, as well as to foster a shared journey towards prosperity and development across the region. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah echoed these sentiments, officially closing the Games with remarks that United Asia, indicating that through collaboration and shared goals, the continent has together penned a new chapter in its history, presenting a splendid and memorable edition of the Games.
The ceremony featured the ceremonial passing of the Olympic Council of Asia flag from Sanya to Cebu in the Philippines, the host city for the upcoming Asian Beach Games, symbolizing the ongoing legacy of the spirit of competition and camaraderie across nations.
This edition of the Asian Beach Games holds particular significance as it marks the first major international multi-sport event post the special customs operations of Hainan Free Trade Port.
