Dream Night at Hanayashiki: A Magical Evening for Families with Severe Disabilities

A Special Night for Families

In a commendable collaboration, COCOLON, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children with severe disabilities, has teamed up with the Florenceto host an extraordinary event known as "Dream Night at Hanayashiki." This initiative aims to provide an engaging atmosphere for children with severe disabilities and their families, creating a place where they can enjoy themselves and connect with others in similar situations.

Objectives of the Event

The inception of this initiative stems from the pressing concerns voiced by families raising children with severe disabilities. Many parents express a desire for opportunities that cater not only to their children’s needs but also offer them a chance to socialize with other families. The challenges that arise when taking children with severe disabilities out, such as finding diaper-changing spaces and accommodating wheelchairs, can often discourage families from going out to enjoy these experiences together.

To address these concerns, both COCOLON and Florence have been actively engaged in creating events that allow families to share experiences, gain insights, and foster connections. By leveraging their experiences and community networks, they were motivated to introduce the Dream Night concept, initially sparked by the international project initiated in Rotterdam's Zoo.

Event Features

Safety and Enjoyment
For this special event, a variety of measures have been implemented to ensure safety and enjoyment in a comfortable, fun-filled environment. With a dedicated space rented from Hanayashiki Park, provisions will be in place for diaper-changing facilities tailored to larger children, allowing for a hassle-free experience.

Families can move around the park using wheelchairs or strollers with ease, however, certain attractions may involve small steps that require assistance. Trained staff from welfare facilities familiar with supporting severely disabled children will be on hand to assist with boarding rides, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience.

The exclusive nighttime setting of the amusement park offers a tranquil environment, reducing wait times for rides and letting families manage their experience at a more relaxed pace. Moreover, many participants utilize medical devices; therefore, the staff is well-trained in assisting guests with medical needs, making sure everyone feels secure in their experiences.

Fun Beyond the Rides

Understanding that some children may not be able to access rides, the event will include a host of alternative activities. Families can exchange food vouchers within the park, allowing them to enjoy refreshments together and facilitating social interactions.

Additionally, a mini-concert will feature sound artists known as "Oto no Nakamatachi" (Yama Kids), providing an interactive musical experience that amplifies the extraordinary ambiance of the park at night.

Collaborating with Sponsors

Thanks to the generous contributions from various sponsoring companies, participation in this event will be free for families dealing with severe disabilities and medical care. The support of these sponsors reflects a growing awareness and commitment toward the challenges faced by these families. COCOLON and Florence are dedicated to extending this network of support as they continue to advocate for inclusivity.
