EMC Healthcare Secures ¥590 Million in Series B Funding
EMC Healthcare, located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has successfully raised ¥590 million through its Series B funding round. The company aims to address pressing issues in the care industry, specifically with its innovative services: "OwlCare" for elderly care and "BabyMoni" for childcare. This funding was acquired through a third-party allocation of shares, with seven collaborators, including Towns Co., Ltd. and existing investors.
Background and Purpose
In Japan, an aging society has led to an increasing demand for caregiving services, creating significant workforce shortages within the industry. This scenario highlights the dual challenge of not only ensuring the quality of care provided but also improving the working environment for caregivers. It is essential for the care sector to address these issues collectively by enhancing labor conditions, improving staff remuneration, and incorporating ICT (Information and Communication Technology) into caregiving operations.
In prior funding rounds, EMC Healthcare utilized ICT and data-driven approaches to enhance the working conditions for essential workers. The development of "OwlCare" has made substantial progress, and its implementation is growing across various caregiving facilities, including special nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Additionally, EMC Healthcare is embarking on joint research with medical and caregiving institutions to facilitate the development of new care methodologies.
With the funds raised in this round, EMC Healthcare plans to bolster its support systems while enhancing production capabilities in the southern Shinano region of Nagano Prefecture. The company aims to expand the utilization of "OwlCare" in local healthcare networks, venture into at-home caregiving solutions, and leverage medical and caregiving data for new initiatives.
