On March 3, 2025, the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) and the community mourn the loss of a great visionary, The Honorable Lincoln Diaz-Balart. As the founder and esteemed Chairman Emeritus of CHLI, Lincoln dedicated his life to uplifting the Hispanic community and advocating for freedom and democracy.

Lincoln Diaz-Balart played a pivotal role in establishing the CHLI, renowned as the only bipartisan and bicameral leadership development organization in Washington, D.C. For nearly 25 years, his unwavering commitment shaped CHLI into a beloved institution that championed the Hispanic community's diverse perspectives. Beyond his accomplishments with CHLI, Lincoln was a distinguished public figure advocating for freedom and democracy, particularly in Cuba, his homeland. His courage and moral clarity made him a beacon of hope, educating others on the harsh realities of communism and valiantly fighting for liberty. Lincoln’s dual love for his native Cuba and adopted America resonated deeply within the communities he served.

A man of noble character, Lincoln was known for his brilliance and integrity. His sharp intellect and statesman-like demeanor commanded respect wherever he went. The void left by his passing is immense, with heartfelt tributes from those who knew him best. CHLI Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen expressed, "Lincoln was a force to be reckoned with...his wit, extensive knowledge, and timely quotes will be dearly missed."
