Daimon Robotics Unveils Groundbreaking Tactile Intelligence for Physical AI at IROS 2026

Daimon Robotics Showcases Tactile Intelligence at IROS 2026

In a significant development for the field of robotics, Daimon Robotics unveiled its latest innovations focusing on tactile intelligence at the IROS 2026 conference held in Pittsburgh. With the theme "From Touch to Intelligence," the company presented its full-stack physical AI capabilities aimed at revolutionizing how robots interact with the physical world.

As automation tasks grow manifold and complexity rises, so does the need for robots to not only observe their environment but also to understand the intricate details of engaging with physical objects. The success of a robotic task often hinges on tactile feedback — factors such as contact, force, and material responses play crucial roles in achieving precise manipulations. Recognizing this, Daimon Robotics is pioneering technologies that advance from visual perception to tactile understanding, giving robots the ability to learn and adapt through physical interactions.

Infrastructure Overview

Daimon’s infrastructure integrates sensor technology, data acquisition systems, and comprehensive world models, facilitating an advanced understanding of tactile interactions. Their offerings include three key components presented at the conference:

1. Perception Layer – The DM-Tac sensor series utilizes vision-based technology to provide multidimensional, high-resolution, and high-frequency tactile feedback, encompassing over twelve tactile modalities. With more than 110,000 detection units, their live demonstrations at IROS showcased tasks such as underwater detection and robustness tests, demonstrating the sensors' reliability in challenging conditions.

2. Data Acquisition – The Data-Nexus system unifies data acquisition devices, networks, processing pipelines, and performance testing into a cohesive workflow. This continuous stream of high-quality interaction data is vital for training AI models, ensuring that robots can effectively learn from their experiences.

3. World Model – The Daimon-TWM (Tactile World Model) leverages interaction data to foster physical cognition, predictive decision making, and real-time control, enabling sophisticated manipulation capabilities.

Live Demonstrations

During IROS 2026, Daimon Robotics showcased its Tactile World Model through two innovative live demonstrations, marking its first public presentation since the model's launch in August:

  • - Friendship Bracelet Threading: This task involves delicate operations with tiny beads, requiring precise gripping, alignment, and adaptation to material deformation and varying contact conditions. Instead of adhering to a preordained sequence, the robot dynamically adjusts its actions based on subtle tactile feedback, reflecting its learning from ongoing interactions.

  • - Heat Transfer Printing on Canvas Bags: The robot autonomously manages multiple steps, from positioning stickers to peeling film, applying heat, and ensuring final setup. This extended task necessitates careful manipulation, resilient control in changing contact conditions, and a high sensitivity to forces. The Tactile World Model enables anticipatory adjustments based on the current physical state of the task.

In both scenarios, the use of tactile feedback allows the robots to maintain awareness of their task’s physical dynamics, adapting their behaviors throughout different phases of operation.

Future of Physical AI

Daimon Robotics' advanced tactile intelligence infrastructure holds the potential to bridge the gap between human-like manipulation and robotic performance. By equipping machines with a profound understanding of tactile interactions, Daimon aims to foster more intuitive and adaptable robots that can perform a diverse array of tasks in dynamic real-world environments.
