Daimon Robotics Unveils Advanced Tactile Intelligence at IROS 2026
Daimon Robotics Showcases Groundbreaking Tactile Intelligence Infrastructure
Daimon Robotics, renowned for its advancements in physical AI, has unveiled an impressive full-stack tactile intelligence system during the IROS 2026 event held in Pittsburgh. The company’s theme, "From Touch to Intelligence," encapsulates their commitment to integrating tactile perception into robotics to enhance physical interactions in complex environments.
In a world where robots are increasingly tasked with intricate physical activities, mere visual perception is no longer sufficient. As contact forces, slip, and material feedback become critical determinants of task success, incorporating tactile sensing technology becomes essential. Daimon Robotics aims to bridge this gap by constructing a robust infrastructure connecting tactile perception with physical interaction data and world modeling.
Highlights of the Demonstration
Daimon Robotics showcased three pivotal components of their tactile intelligence infrastructure:
- Perception Layer: At the forefront is the DM-Tac Series, a set of vision-based tactile sensors that deliver multi-dimensional recognition across more than twelve different tactile modalities, boasting over 110,000 sensing units. Attendees witnessed live demonstrations that included underwater sensing and durability testing, highlighting the sensors' precision and reliability, even in demanding conditions.
- Data Layer: The Data-Nexus Acquisition System innovatively merges data acquisition devices and processing pipelines into one cohesive workflow, facilitating the continuous generation of high-quality physical interaction data, essential for the training of advanced models.
- World Model Layer: The Daimon-TWM model grounds intelligence in real physical interaction data, promoting Physical Cognition, Predictive Decision-Making, and Real-Time Control over dexterous manipulation tasks.
First In-Person Demonstration of Daimon-TWM
IROS 2026 marked the inaugural in-person demonstration of the Daimon-TWM since its launch in August. This was exemplified through two autonomous manipulation tasks:
1. Friendship Bracelet Stringing: The robot demonstrated the ability to pick up tiny engraved beads, align their openings, and thread them onto a flexible string. This task required remarkable small-scale precision and an adaptive approach to variable contact conditions, showcasing Daimon-TWM's ability to modify actions responsively based on tactile feedback.
2. Canvas Tote Heat-Transfer Printing: In this task, the robot autonomously managed multiple steps, including sticker placement, film removal, and hot stamping. The challenge lay in precise placements and adapting to changing contact conditions, proving that Daimon-TWM can predict the outcome of actions and adjust subsequent steps based on ongoing feedback.
Across all demonstrations, it was clear that Daimon-TWM can respond dynamically to changes in the physical state of the tasks, showing how tactile feedback enhances the efficacy of robotic actions.
The Future of Tactile Intelligence in Robotics
Daimon Robotics is on a mission to revolutionize how robots interact with the physical world, transitioning from purely visual understanding to a robust tactile intelligence framework. By empowering robots with tactile perception, there is significant potential for enhanced learning, adaptation, and performance in intricate manipulation tasks.
