Dr. Roxana Mehran Assumes Presidency of the ACC
Dr. Roxana Mehran, a distinguished figure in the field of cardiovascular medicine, began her tenure as president of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) on March 30, 2026. She will serve in this critical leadership role for a duration of one year, overseeing an organization that boasts almost 60,000 members globally and is committed to enhancing the standards of cardiovascular care across the spectrum.
In her inaugural statement, Dr. Mehran expressed her deep honor and excitement in taking on this leadership role. "The ACC is a remarkable global organization devoted to improving human health by transforming cardiovascular care. Our members are on the front lines every day seeking evidence, diagnosing diseases, and caring for patients," she stated. Her focus will be on reinforcing the ACC's international partnerships while also ensuring heightened engagement with members, emphasizing growth, opportunity, and impactful contributions in the field.
Dr. Mehran, an acclaimed interventional cardiologist, researcher, and advocate for women's roles in medicine, brings with her a wealth of experience and a collaborative spirit. She holds the title of endowed professor of cardiovascular clinical research and outcomes at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Here, she also serves in cardiology and population health science and policy, following her completion of fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.
As director of the Women's Heart and Vascular Center at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital, Dr. Mehran has pioneered a multidisciplinary program designed to cater to the distinctive needs of women's cardiovascular health. Her career is marked by substantial contributions to global studies and clinical guideline development, with thousands of peer-reviewed publications to her name. Notably, she has been recognized by Clarivate Analytics as one of the most influential scientific minds in their Highly Cited Researchers list for eight consecutive years.
In addition to her clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Mehran is the founder and chief scientific officer of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. She also established Women as One, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing the representation of women in medicine. Her extensive service history with the ACC includes leadership positions such as chair of the Interventional Section Leadership Council and member of the Board of Trustees, as well as contributions as an author on multiple clinical guidelines.
Dr. Mehran's accomplishments have been acknowledged through numerous awards, which include the ACC Bernadine Healy Leadership in CV Disease Award in 2017 and the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2019. She continues to be a leading advocate and mentor, receiving accolades for her influence and outstanding contributions to medical leadership.
The ACC's Convocation Ceremony, during the ACC's Annual Scientific Session in New Orleans, marked her official assumption of office. Alongside her, new officers have been appointed for the 2026-27 terms, including Vice President Dr. Hani Najm and various members of the Board of Trustees.
