Introducing the 'BAG@Shibuya 2-chome Street Gallery' Project
Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. is excited to announce the launch of
'BAG@Shibuya 2-chome Street Gallery', a unique art project by renowned photographer
Yoshida Nagi. This initiative aims to showcase a vibrant and diverse range of people connected to Shibuya through a large-scale exhibition displayed on the construction barrier surrounding the site of ongoing demolition work.
The project invites locals who have a connection to the Shibuya area to participate, with a call for submissions set to begin on
October 16, 2025. The photographs will be displayed starting on
October 31, 2025, and will remain up until
April 2026. Yoshida intends to photograph individuals from Shibuya, capturing their essence and connection to the city. The end goal is to create a magnificent visual representation of Shibuya’s alluring community.
One of the most exciting aspects of this project is its innovative approach to art display. Rather than being confined to a specific gallery space, BAG operates as a
site-specific gallery, adapting to the characteristics of each unique location. This first phase leverages the vacant space of a construction site to provide an artistic experience for both local residents and passersby, fostering a richer environment that adds new value to the community.
Yoshida has previously celebrated the uniqueness of diverse individuals, including indigenous peoples and drag queens. For this project, his focus on the everyday lives of people in Shibuya aims to strengthen ties within the community, encouraging a re-examination of the city’s distinct allure amidst ongoing development.
Among the featured subjects in the first phase of the project are notable figures such as
Zeebra, a Hip Hop activist and goodwill ambassador for the Shibuya Tourism Association, along with approximately ten other individuals who embody the spirit of this bustling area. As the project progresses, the second wave will include selected participants from the general public who apply through the special recruitment campaign. Ultimately, around
20 artworks are expected to be displayed.
The capture of these photographs will take place within the framework of the
DESIGNART TOKYO 2025, a design and art festival scheduled from
October 31 to November 9, 2025.
