Sewa International Volunteers Make a Difference During FIFA World Cup in Houston
Sewa International played a crucial role in supporting the operations of three FIFA World Cup matches held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, on June 14, June 20, and July 4. Partnering with S.A.F.E. (Security, Athletic Facilities & Events) Management, over 120 dedicated volunteers from Sewa gathered together to ensure that visitors had a tremendous experience while contributing to a vital cause.
With a remarkable total of 2,051 service hours logged, these volunteers were not just working; they were engaging with thousands of football fans from around the world. Their roles included entry screening, ticket scanning, providing directions, and managing the lines, ensuring a smooth flow of the enthusiastic crowds while promoting a welcoming atmosphere.
Despite the challenging Houston summer heat and occasional rain showers, the volunteers demonstrated incredible resolve and teamwork, completing their shifts with enthusiasm and commitment. To honor their hard work, Sewa celebrated at a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on July 12, where volunteers were recognized for their contributions and treated to commemorative FIFA volunteer T-shirts.
What’s more, the tireless efforts of these volunteers extended beyond just the event. Through their service, they managed to raise over $35,000 to support Sewa’s Family Services Program, which helps individuals and families facing tough situations such as bereavement, medical emergencies, and senior citizen support.
Srikanth Gundavarapu, President of Sewa International USA, expressed immense gratitude for the dedicated volunteers. He noted, "Our volunteers served with dedication, enthusiasm, and compassion. Working 8 to 10 hours outdoors required commitment and resilience. We sincerely thank every volunteer for their selfless service."
The partnership with S.A.F.E. Management greatly enhanced the operations, as Becca Holtgreive, the Managing Director, acknowledged the energy and support provided by Sewa International during the World Cup. She expressed hope for future collaborations, emphasizing the positive impact their combined efforts have made.
Volunteer Vishal Khurana shared his appreciation for the organization and expressed how fulfilling it was to interact with fans from diverse backgrounds. Another volunteer, Preanka Arti, who served in all three matches, noted the physically demanding nature of the tasks but highlighted the pride she felt in representing her community, stating it was a deeply rewarding experience.
